How the ten are put in order
One set of questions, asked of every hotel in the same way.
1. We judge a hotel as a hotel
Each property is assessed on what a guest experiences between check-in and check-out: where it sits, how it is built, how the rooms feel and what can be reached on foot. The casino counts as just one facility on a long list and can never lift or sink a position.
2. Sentences, not numbers
You will not see marks out of ten, star icons or averaged guest opinions anywhere on the site. Placing is an editorial decision, and we explain it in ordinary language instead of squeezing it into a figure.
3. Nobody pays
A hotel, chain or agency cannot buy its way onto the list or up it. No commissions, affiliate tags or booking engines sit behind any of our links.
The questions we ask
| Area | Question |
|---|---|
| Setting | Is the destination worth the trip on its own, and how much of it can you reach on foot or by public transport? |
| Building | Does the architecture, history or design give the place a character you would remember? |
| Rooms | How much space and light do you get, what is the outlook, and does quality change from one tower to the next? |
| Extras | Pools, spas, restaurants, gardens and live shows that would make the visit worthwhile even if the casino did not exist. |
| Fit | Which kind of traveller is likely to love it, stated in the "Best for" line under each review. |
How often we revisit
The list is reread on a regular schedule and again whenever a property announces a big change such as a rebrand, a renovation or a closure. The month printed above the rankings shows when the facts were most recently looked over.
